Description: Freelancing for The Patch has quickly become a full time job. I've had the opportunity to report on some good stories and create compelling multimedia packages as a result.
Description: Hired to build the Poweredge Magazine web site from scratch, my responsibilities include keeping the content current, as it is given to me, and general maintenance. Web skills utilized: CSS, HTML, Javascript, Flash, XML and PHP.
Description: As a web designer in the IT department at California State University, Northridge, I have been tasked with designing for various sub-pages on the domain. One of my recent duties required me to build a Javascript menu using the JQuery library. Web skills utilized: CSS, HTML, Javascript, Flash.
Description: As cultural commentator "Piter de Vries," it is my sworn duty to write satire and consumer reviews for Lost in a Supermarket, the premier online magazine for keeping tabs on contemporary culture.
Description: The Daily Sundial publishes breaking news pertinent to the CSUN campus. I spent a semester writing and reporting for this daily newspaper.
Description: While volunteering as a library monitor, I ensured that library patrons followed the guidelines set by the department, re-shelved books and helped undergraduate students with research.
Description: Acting as both administrative assistant and media supervisor for the Jonathan Club beach venue, it was my responsibility to copy-edit the club magazine for accuracy, grammar, AP style and clarity. I also utilized the Adobe Creative Suite to generate all in-house advertising used to inform club members of frequent dining room and bar events. In addition, I answered phones, maintained financial records and took restaurant reservations.
Description: I began my relationship with BPM Magazine as an intern and was later hired on a freelance basis. During this time I was charged with copy-editing the magazine for accuracy, grammar, AP style and clarity. I would organize and upload text and images to magazine's web site, as well as conduct interviews and write stories.
Description: My stint at the Santa Monica Daily Press was a boot camp of sorts in the ways of a daily newspaper. Some of my duties included copy-editing, reporting and writing local news and helping prepare content for pagination.
Description: As Corsair editor-in-chief I oversaw the day-to-day operations of Santa Monica College's weekly newspaper. I directed section editors in newsworthiness and page design, and often filled in when staff members were absent. I also simultaneously was acting as liaison between the print and Web sides and was principal Web designer of the Corsair online.
Description: After four years in Marine Corps aviation maintenance, I found that I was a more organized, focused person. Not only did I learn the values of leadership, but I was able to work in a professional office environment. It was my responsibility to track aircraft component hours and run quality assurance inspections on our helicopters. I also spent hundreds of hours reading technical publications for various certification requirements.
